About The Animals
By Sean Buckley
The Animals is a gripping and atmospheric new play written for the National Theatre’s Connections Festival.
Set in a world where survival feels increasingly uncertain, the play follows a group of young people navigating fear, loyalty and the instinct to belong. As tensions rise and the pressure mounts, the characters must decide who they trust — and what they are prepared to sacrifice to protect themselves and each other.
Blending sharp dialogue with moments of humour and intensity, The Animals explores themes of identity, group mentality and the thin line between civilisation and chaos. It is a powerful and thought-provoking piece that challenges audiences to consider what happens when the rules that normally hold society together begin to fracture.
Written especially for young performers, the play offers a dynamic and emotionally charged theatrical experience that showcases ensemble performance at its very best.
