This summer, Firefly Bookstore and the Kutztown Strand Theater are teaming up once again for our second annual Books & Movies Summer Series. Throughout the summer, we'll be bringing six beloved family films to the big screen—each inspired by a book that readers can discover at Firefly.
Our next feature is The Iron Giant (1999). Based on The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, The Iron Giant tells the story of Hogarth Hughes, a young boy who discovers and befriends a mysterious giant robot that has fallen from the sky. As fear and suspicion begin to spread through the community, Hogarth must help his unlikely friend navigate a world that sees him as a threat. Filled with adventure, humor, and heart, The Iron Giant has become one of the most beloved animated films of its generation, remembered for its powerful themes of friendship, compassion, sacrifice, and the choices that define who we are.
This series is part of our ongoing partnership with the Kutztown Strand Theater and our shared commitment to bringing family-friendly cultural events to the community. Moviegoers will also have the opportunity to explore the books behind the films, and Firefly will be hosting a ticket raffle throughout the series.
Whether you're revisiting a cherished childhood favorite or experiencing it for the first time, we hope you'll join us for an evening of books, movies, and community.
The Iron Giant will be shown at the Kutztown Strand Theater on Friday, August 14th at 7:00 PM. Tickets are only $5. There will be concessions available. We look forward to seeing you there for another memorable installment of our summer celebration of stories brought to life on the big screen.
