A feel-great mind and body practice, that taps into your soma (mind-body)'s innate intelligence to calm, rebalance and release tension, freeing you up for moving better & feeling better!
Somatics uses specific techniques that can result in immediate effects on range of motion, tension & discomfort, as we reset tension at the brain level. We do less stretching and more gentle movements in all directions, sometimes super slow, sometimes more dynamic, but always gentle and pain free.
Communicating safety and stability to the brain means the brain can let go of excessive gripping - and the effect on our whole being as we let go of this chronically held tension feels amazing, setting off a domino effect throughout the whole body. The class is always a full body and mind reset!
Dealing with our fascia and nervous system & releasing stress-based tension has far-reaching beneficial effects on our wellbeing as a whole.
This class can improve your sense of calm but also improve your energy and focus - and most people sleep better on the day of class too! You can improve balance, posture, core function, breathing and flexibility / mobility. You can get more from everything else you do with these things in your toolbox. You get more from your gym training or workouts with better breathing, posture and core function for example. And if you feel great and get energy & lymph flowing better in your body you will find you are more energised and motivated to do other activities. An upward spiral of positive effects from some very simple and accessible practices.
Classes may include functional movements, eye & vestibular drills, balance practice, energy practices, breath practices, somatic practices, self-massage and tapping for aiding energy and lymph flow and vagus nerve stimulation practices (many of these overlap!) and I strongly believe this is a practice that we can all benefit from on a regular basis, no matter what else we do in our lives.
