The Imprisoned Voice

In collaboration with Pollen Inititative, Clio's is honored to present The Imprisoned Voice, a recurring series of Friday-night conversations with poets, fiction and creative non-fiction writers, scholars, and philosophers who produce their work exclusively from within American prisons. All conversations will occur live and in real time via phone.

The series continues on Friday, July 24th with the writer Nora Igova, who is developing a profound literary journalism practice from within the Central California Women's Facility. This is a ticketed event, all proceeds from which will go toward supporting the sustainability and expansion of community engagement programs that support currently incarcerated writers and scholars.

Nora Igova is a writer and illustrator originally from Bulgaria who is currently incarcerated at Central California Women’s Facility. She serves as the art and layout designer for the monthly newspaper CCWF Paper Trail and contributes to Wall City magazine. Her journalism includes intimate profiles carefully constructed from interviews and feature stories about Pr*son’s more controversial topics. She received national recognition as Women Pr*son Journalist of the Year in 2025 by the American Penal Press Contest, the "Pulitzer Prize” behind bars, as well as awards for her commentary and reporting from the California News Publishers Association. In addition to her journalism, Nora works as a facilitator for Lifescripting, a women-centered Pr*son program rooted in positive psychology devoted to answering the question "why do we do what we do?", and is completing a bachelor’s degree through California State University, Fresno.

They believe access to information, creativity, and civic participation are essential to human dignity and rehabilitation. Their work is rooted in the belief that journalism, observational and reported, has the power to humanize, contextualize, and inspire change.
