Come learn about the history of Jewish burial societies and their existence in New York City.
About this Event

At the end of WWII, Jewish burial societies (landsmanshaften) often created memorials in cemeteries to honor the memories of their families and towns destroyed during the Holocaust. Join us for a conversation about the history of the landsmanshaften, as well as an exploration of how burial societies at the Mount Hebron Cemetery in New York City became the only remaining pieces left of these original communities. This event features Susannah Trubman, Learning and Media Center Educator at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research; Adam Ginsberg, President of the Cedar Grove Cemetery Association; and Deirdre Poulous, Director of the Mount Hebron Legacy Foundation.

**To attend in person: The event is free and open to all, but registration ahead of time is required and visitors must show ID upon entering the campus at Queensborough Community College (QCC). For directions to QCC’s campus, please visit https://www.qcc.cuny.edu/about/index.html#gettingHere. For elevator access, enter the QCC Administration building and follow signs for the Kupferberg Holocaust Center.
