The Havana Syndrome: Secret Weapons, A Government Cover-Up, And The Greatest Spy Mystery Of Our Time
The Authors’ Investigation
The authors spoke with more than seventy victims of Havana Syndrome attacks, including clandestine CIA officers, special forces operators, diplomats, and their injured family members. They conducted more than 100 interviews for this project.
A clear pattern emerged across the interviews: The targeted officials were engaged in intelligence or military work against Russian interests. These men and women were among the best performers in their agencies and most successful in their work on behalf of the United States. For many, their families were also caught in the invisible crossfire.
Working with a team of Russian exile journalists, Rey and Zill tracked the movements and activities of a specialized unit of Russian intelligence, tying them to the scene of several Havana Syndrome incidents. They found evidence that Unit 29155, a team of assassins that had already wreaked havoc in Europe for a decade, was using an innovative new weapon technology to wage an ongoing war with American spies.
