In 1997, with the Northern Ireland peace process faltering, Nelson Mandela invited political leaders from across the divide to South Africa. For three extraordinary days they argued, listened, laughed and sang together…..and something shifted.
The Great Indaba is a new play by Irish writer/director Adam McGuigan and South African writer/director Sibusiso Mamba, uncovering the remarkable and little-known role South Africa played in helping Northern Ireland towards peace.
Built from years of interviews with people who were actually there, the play blends testimony, humour, storytelling and a new Irish–South African musical world.
Join us for a special rehearsed reading of this exciting new work in development. An extraordinary story about finding common ground, and why the lessons of peace still matter today.
