The Forgettery

Nova Linea Contemporary Dance presents “The Forgettery,” a new work exploring the fragile nature of memory and the traces it leaves behind as moments, people, and experiences fade over time. As memories blur and connections become more distant, the work asks: where do our memories go when they slip beyond our reach? What if we could visit them once more?
“The Forgettery” imagines a place where forgotten memories gather after they have slipped beyond our reach. Inspired by concepts such as “The Memory Dump,” “The Mind Palace,” the ancient river Lethe, and the Italian word “Dimenticatoio,” the work explores a landscape where forgotten experiences linger, traces of memory rest beneath the surface, and lost connections echo long after they have faded, creating a space where the past is never entirely gone.
Featuring approximately 25 dancers, “The Forgettery” is a one-act performance choreographed by Artistic Director Jared Baker and created in collaboration with the guest artists of Nova Linea Contemporary Dance’s third annual Professional Intensive. Combining striking imagery and emotional storytelling, the work invites audiences to reflect on the moments that slip away, the traces they leave behind, and whether any memory is ever truly lost.
