About this Event

The First 7 Minutes

What Would You Do Before Help Arrives?

When something serious happens, most people know to call 911.

The harder question is:

What do you do next?

There is often a period of time when professional help is coming, but it is not there yet. During those first few minutes, the decisions made by the people already on scene can matter tremendously.

The First 7 Minutes is a free 90-minute class designed for ordinary people who want to be more capable when something goes wrong.

You do not need to be a first responder. You do not need medical, military, law-enforcement, or emergency-response experience.

This class explores what happens during those critical first moments and what you can do before professional help arrives.

We will look at questions like:
  • Why do intelligent, capable people sometimes freeze or fail to recognize an emergency?
  • How do you quickly identify what actually matters most?
  • What medical emergencies can become critical before an ambulance arrives?
  • How do you help without becoming another victim?
  • What should you think about when the danger may still be happening?
  • What changes when the emergency lasts hours or days instead of minutes?

This is not a medical certification class, firearms class, or disaster-preparedness course.

Instead, it brings together some of the most important ideas from psychology, emergency medicine, personal safety, communication, and preparedness to answer one larger question:

How capable are you when something goes wrong and professional help is not standing beside you?

During the class, we will also introduce a simple framework for thinking about preparedness:

The First 7 Seconds — Can you recognize the problem?

The First 7 Minutes — Can you take useful action before help arrives?

The First 7 Hours — Can your household function when normal systems are disrupted?

The First 7 Days — Can you adapt and remain self-sufficient during a larger emergency?

You will leave with practical ideas you can use immediately, along with a better understanding of the areas where additional training might benefit you or your family.

Who Should Attend?

Anyone who has ever wondered:

“If something happened right now, would I know what to do?”

No previous training is required.

At the end of the class, we will briefly introduce the Civilian Crisis Response Team and explain how people who want to continue developing these skills can access additional training and opportunities through CCRT.

The class is designed to provide useful, practical information you can take home and use. We will spend just a few minutes at the end introducing CCRT for anyone interested in continuing their training.

There is no charge to attend, but seating is limited. Reserve your seat in advance.
