The Fieldwork Edge: PT & OT Educator Training

The purpose of this continuing education course is to support essential clinical education partners, Fieldwork Educators (FWE) and Clinical Instructors (CIs), in mentoring and supervising the clinical education of OTA/PTA students at Allegany College of Maryland. Intentionally designed as a professional development opportunity and a collaborative investment in our shared goal of preparing competent, confident, and entry-level clinicians, the course is token of appreciation and ongoing partnership to support clinical educators in their invaluable roles of mentorship, clinical training, and lifelong learning which supports high-quality fieldwork experiences and the development of future graduates and clinicians.
Participants will receive practical, evidence-informed strategies to enhance student supervision, learn the needs of the changing student population, identify the resources available to support student supervision, streamline communication for a positive professional relationship, deliver effective feedback to foster student growth, and balance productivity and teaching responsibilities.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
•Identify key changes impacting today’s clinical education students
•Describe the impact of learning styles in clinical education
•Correlate various learning styles to effective supervision and communication strategies
•Identify tools for managing student performance concerns early and effectively
•Apply strategies to student and personal well-being within the scope of student supervision
