The Farmer is the Man

Immerse yourself in Illinois’ rich agricultural history while listening to traditional folk songs on the site of Orland Park’s oldest farm property, Stellwagen Farm. From traditional songs like “The Farmer is the Man,” to the dust bowl ballads of Woody Guthrie, to the works of contemporary songwriters like Stan Rogers and farmer Chuck Sukay, the subject of farm life has long been fertile ground for folk musicians. Chris Vallillo has spent more than 35 years documenting the music of rural Illinois farmers, who are the backbone of our community's historic foundation.
After the show is over, participants can enjoy a square dancing lesson, a petting zoo, hay rides and more!
