SESSION Nr. 1 : May 30th "Us vs.Them"
The Dialogue Room is developing and testing participatory formats for constructive interpersonal and public dialogue - bringing people with differing political, ideological and cultural perspectives into meaningful conversation with curiosity, care and humanity.
These five workshops will trial approaches for a larger community event later this year, exploring both the internal scaffolding that helps us remain grounded and present during difficult conversations, and the external scaffolding needed to create safer, more collaborative spaces for constructive dialogue.
Drawing on trauma-informed group facilitation, active listening, non-violent communication (NVC), IFS-informed practice and systemic approaches, participants are invited to engage in structured exercises whilst learning tools designed to support:
- How to stay relational across difference – experiential not performative
- How to navigate triggering or polarising topics safely without escalation
- Deep listening and perspective-shifting – tools for real conversations
- Collaborative dialogue and shared inquiry – learning by doing rather than observing
- Participate in feedback and reflective conversation
Sessions will include facilitated dialogue exercises, paired and group reflections, fishbowl-style discussions, and opportunities to help shape the evolving format of The Dialogue Room.
Open to anyone interested in dialogue, mediation, community building, social healing or new approaches to private and public conversation.
It is possible to attend just one event, a few or all five sessions.
Spaces are limited to 20 participants to support depth, trust and meaningful exchange.
We ask for a contribution of £10 per session to support room hire and refreshments (provided). A small number of discounted places are available at £5. We don’t want cost to be a barrier to participation, so please get in touch if you would like to attend but cannot afford to contribute at this time.
Please also be aware that these workshops are intended as a shared space for exploration and learning.
Some of the themes and conversations may feel emotionally challenging or potentially triggering.
While we aim to create a resilience and trauma-informed environment that is inclusive and supportive, we are not able to provide ongoing individual support or aftercare structures. This is not a ’Therapy Group’, and may be challenging, so we therefore require participants to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and capacity to engage with the material, and to participate with care and respect for themselves and others.
For further questions, please get in touch.
We look forward to meeting you in the Dialogue Room
