About this Event
The Art of Your Heart: Talking without Words
If our emotions are held in the body and the body is wiser than the mind, where does our truth lie? Where is our deep wise self?
In this unusual and exciting 'talk' from artist, acupuncturist and focusing practitioner Hilary Thorn, we will explore a practice of talking without talking. Using the simple tools of paper and pen/pencil, we will get curious about how our thoughts and feelings feel in our bodies and create space for them to find shapes and rhythms on the page rather than trying to find words to explain them. We will see what happens when we ask questions of our heart and let the body lead us in response.
As Hilary says: 'As I grow older and the world becomes an ever-deepening sea of information, I find myself leaning into a more embodied space, trusting my animal sense and intuition more than my ability to find the right words.'
What does it mean to explore this? To move beyond the personal and explore a collective language—one that connects us not only to each other, but to nature, to spirit, to God (or whatever word you choose)? Perhaps words cannot name what we are reaching for. The work lives in sensation, in presence, in the subtle currents beneath words, where meaning is felt before it is spoken.
