The Ceremony
About this Event
The Ceremony is a Black Sacred Space that calls us to remember the Black Technologies that have kept us alive. It is an immersive experience that uses Music, Dance, art installation, Communion, and Prayer to remind us of who we are in a world that is actively trying to erase us.
We. Get. BIGGER.
Comprised of multiple components - The Sanctuary, an interactive art installation; The Anthology, a collection of stories, rituals, and affirmations; The Album, a blend of classic 90s gospel and Black music genres; and The Communion, a series of performances and workshops - The Ceremony promises to be a Spirit-forward experience for, curated, performed, and held by Black people.
The Ceremony calls forth our innovative ways to RECLAIM our power and move with audacity to create change in our lives and ultimately, our Communities.
Two years since its inception, Body Prayers has partnered with Public Functionary and over 71 Artists to bring this culturally rich experience to Minneapolis
We owe ourselves celebrations and reflection; we deserve to see beyond today, to dream about futures. We expand without permission. We exist not despite but because we simply ARE.
Featuring works by Mychal Fisher (MMYYKK), BLAQ, Vie Boheme, Al’ Tawam, Maiya Hartman, Jordan Hamilton, Gifted Hands, Omar Abdulkarim, Remnant Dance Conservatory and more!
