Oakland guitarist and vocalist Bobby Young counts more than fifty years in Bay Area blues, a road he says has run alongside John Lee Hooker, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Maria Muldaur and Jimmy McCracklin. He came up on Hendrix, Clapton and Sly Stone, and it shows: The Bobby Young Project plays blues with rock muscle over a deep funk and soul pocket. The band lists a 2016 Blues Band of the Year award from the Northern California Entertainers Music Awards among its honors, plus nominations in 2017 and 2018.
The bandstand is a family affair. Bobby's son Nick Young plays second guitar beside him, a father and son pairing San Francisco's El Tecolote singled out back in 2013, with longtime drummer Latrosse Harris holding down the groove. Five decades of Oakland blues, two guitars, one intimate room. Grab a table before this one fills up.
