Joe Louis Walker was born in San Francisco on Christmas Day 1949 and was a known quantity on the Bay Area scene by sixteen. He roomed with Mike Bloomfield for years and played alongside John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush and Jimi Hendrix. He took a Grammy for his work on James Cotton's Deep in the Blues, entered the Blues Hall of Fame in 2013, and died in April 2025.

Paul Steward carries the songs forward. Raised on the Elem Indian Colony at Sulphur Bank Rancheria and handed a guitar at thirteen by his father Richard, he won a Native American Music Award for Blues Album of the Year with their duo Twice As Good, and he has been building a solo catalog since 2021. He plays Walker the way Walker played it, loud and live, in the city that made him.
