Every spring, London transforms into the world's largest Easter egg hunt. The Big Egg Hunt — presented by Elephant Family in partnership with Clarence Court — scatters over 100 giant decorated egg sculptures across the capital's most iconic landmarks, streets, and neighbourhoods. It's free to explore, impossible to miss, and genuinely one of the most joyful things you can do in London in spring.
The Big Egg Hunt was first launched in 2012 by the visionary Mark Shand, HRH Queen Camilla's late brother, to raise money and awareness for the plight of the Asian elephant. What started as a bold conservation idea has grown into an annual London tradition, with the event drawing over 40,000 participants each year. Elephant Family is the only charity of which Their Majesties The King and Queen are joint Presidents — in past years, they've personally commissioned eggs displayed at Buckingham Palace.
Each egg in the trail is a two-foot-tall sculptural canvas brought to life by a different artist, designer, or brand. Past contributors have included Mr Doodle, Anya Hindmarch, Sophie Tea, Chopard, Fortnum & Mason, and Philip Colbert — the range is extraordinary, from whimsical illustrated creatures to jewel-encrusted masterpieces. In 2026, a new collection of artist-designed eggs goes on display across London from late March through late April, creating a city-wide open-air gallery that's entirely free to enjoy.
The trail is app-based: download the free Big Egg Hunt app (available on iOS and Google Play) to access an interactive map showing every egg's location, unlock milestone rewards as you find each one, vote for your favourites, and discover the story behind each design. It turns a casual stroll into a proper hunt, and works brilliantly for families with kids who need something to chase.
Eggs are placed across all areas of London — from the City and South Bank to Mayfair, Notting Hill, and beyond — meaning you can do the whole trail over several days or pick a neighbourhood and do a short loop. After the trail closes, the eggs go to auction, with proceeds supporting Elephant Family's conservation programmes protecting Asian elephants and their habitats.
