Colonial Fort Condé, in collaboration with the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, is proud to present “The Battle of Fort Charlotte”! In recognition of the only battle from the American Revolution to occur in Mobile, we invite guests to partake in a unique living history event about the battle between Great Britain and Spain for control of Mobile.
On Saturday, March 14th, guests are invited to witness the actual battle told from the point of view of the British and Spanish officers and soldiers in and around Fort Charlotte. The reenactment by our own living history interpreters and other groups from the Granaderos y Damas de Gálvez, Waldeck 3rd Regiment, Ewalds Jaeger Co., Gulf Coast Artillery, and other reenactment groups from the Southeast will take place at 1:00pm at Fort Condé and will last around 45 minutes. Guests will be able to interact with the living history interpreters before and after the reenactment between 9:00am - 5:00pm.
We are thrilled to be joined by Dennis Carlos, an accomplished artist, historian, and living history reenactor with over two decades of experience, who will play the role of Bernardo de Gálvez and show how his actions and Spain’s contributions helped America succeed in becoming an independent nation. The role of Spain in the birth of the United States is a little known and little understood aspect of U.S. independence. Gálvez is best remembered for his victory at Pensacola that aided the American war effort and made him a hero to both Spain and the newly independent United States. He was officially recognized by George Washington and the United States Congress for his aid during the American Revolution.

Admission to Colonial Fort Condé and the reenactment is free! Attendees are encouraged to wear colonial-era clothing to enhance the authenticity of the event and deepen their engagement with the experience. PLEASE NOTE: Gun and cannon fire will occur as part of this event. Attendees with hearing sensitivities are encouraged to bring appropriate hearing protection.
