History Lives On at the MuseumFor years, a powerful annual tradition brought Revolutionary War history to life—first at Latta, then most recently at Rural Hill. Generations have gathered to experience the sights, sounds, and stories of our nation’s fight for independence.
But recently, this cherished event was on the verge of being cancelled for 2025.
Refusing to let history fade, the Museum of the Waxhaws—alongside passionate reenactment units and dedicated living historians—rallied together to keep it alive. Because history isn't just what we remember—it's what we preserve, share, and pass on.
This past June, the Museum proudly hosted the Battle of the Waxhaws Reenactment and Living History Weekend, bringing to life one of the most dramatic moments of the Southern Campaign. Guests walked through bustling encampments, felt the thunder of battle, and connected with the courage of those who shaped our founding.
And now, history returns once again.
On August 30th and 31st, the Museum grounds will transform for another unforgettable experience: the Battle of Charlotte Reenactment and Living History Weekend. In 1780, Waxhaw was still part of Mecklenburg County—lands that bore witness to the struggle for liberty during some of the Revolution’s most turbulent days.
Join us as we honor the past, engage the present, and bring Revolutionary War history vividly back to life.
