About this Event
Laurie Gwen Shapiro is New York’s cultural flâneur, a journalist and award-winning documentary film maker who has written unforgettable stories for The New York Times, The New Yorker, Slate, and other publications. A consummate storyteller, she was the winner of the Damn History Award for “The Improbable Journey of Dorothy Parker’s Ashes,” which appeared in The New Yorker. For her riveting new book she delved into archives and unexamined sources to reveal an all but unknown side of the fiercely driven Amelia Earhart: her marriage and partnership with the “PT Barnum of publishing,” George Putnam, which made her a legend. Shapiro will appear in conversation with Patrick Radden Keefe, staff writer for The New Yorker and award-winning author of books including Empire of Pain and Say Nothing.
This event occurs in person. RSVP does not guarantee entry. Our coat check is limited. Please do not bring any large bags or backpacks.
