Join instructor Arlene Westen for a mindful, hands-on textile workshop at the Vernon Arts Summer School exploring the Japanese tradition of Boro. This practice is rooted in repair, reuse, and respect for materials, celebrating imperfection and the quiet beauty of worn textiles.
Participants will learn traditional hand-stitching techniques including running stitch and Sashiko while layering fabric scraps to build texture, pattern, and rhythm. Through slow, intentional stitching, you will create a small Boro inspired textile that reflects both personal expression and material history.
This workshop is accessible to artists, crafters, and beginners alike, offering an entry point into sustainable textile practices.
