Join instructor Sienna Belanger-Lee for an immersive three-day workshop at the Vernon Arts Summer School exploring Indigenous fibre arts through land-based learning and making with tule tkʷtan, a culturally significant wetland plant used by Syilx peoples for generations.
Rooted in Syilx knowledge systems and contemporary Indigenous art practice, this workshop introduces participants to ethical, land-based fibre techniques including cordage, matting, and paper-based fibre work. Emphasis is placed on process, relationship to materials, and learning through hands-on making guided by story, demonstration, and cultural context.
Participants will explore how fibre practices connect to land, water, and living systems while creating at least one finished fibre piece to take home.
