Our year-long Keeping the Score Series continues with the Errol Flynn classic THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD! ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ง๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐: princetongardentheatre.org/specials๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ฒ: A rollicking Technicolor tale of the legendary English outlaw, ROBIN HOOD is regarded as one of the great Hollywood adventure films. Errol Flynn was at the height of his powers and he enthusiastically threw himself into the spirited swordplay and stunts. An enjoyable tale with dashing action, fine comedy, and great chemistry between the leads.
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ: Erich Wolfgang Korngold, a prominent early film composer in Hollywood alongside Max Steiner and Alfred Newman, initially expressed reservations when he was first invited to compose the score for this groundbreaking adventure film. Unable to return to Austria due to the rise of the Nazism and the onset of World War II, Korngold seized the opportunity to score ROBIN HOOD as a means of securing his stay in America, a decision he later remarked had saved his life. His vibrant score infused the film with a rich complexity, characterized by romantic harmonies, lush instrumental textures, and passionate climaxes. ROBIN HOOD serves as a quintessential example of Korngold's view that his film compositions were "operas without singing." For his work on this film, Korngold earned an Academy Award for Best Original Score and laid the groundwork for a symphonic style that would later influence John Williams in his scores for Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐:Be it a gentle piano interlude or a glorious orchestral fanfare, no element of filmcraft sets a movieโs tone and identity quite like the musical score. Film music has the power to underline a filmmakerโs narrative ideas, forge our bond to a heroic character, and move us to the point of tears. Join us all year long as we showcase cinemaโs iconic composers whose musical talents enrich the images we see on screen and have us humming their unforgettable melodies as we exit the auditorium.
