We all make plans. We intend things to go one way and can picture a pretty good version of events (fruit trees do this every spring and that’s where we get the concept of fruition).
But time takes a look at most of those plans and scrapes at an edge here, drops that thing there, offers something else and removes what you thought you had.
The image for this event is the original plan for the Regent’s Park in the 1810’s.
Check out the stream cutting through the entire park. There’s a Prince’s Reservoir. There’s a Waterloo Monument intended.
But that’s not the park we have now, the one where we’ve been playing Frisbee Tree Golf regularly for the past 22 autumns.
Plans change.
But here’s a plan you can stick to:
On Sunday 16th November 2025, come down to the Regent’s Park as the Cumberland Lawn Frisbee Tree Golf Club is hosting the 23rd annual Autumn Aubergine tournament and it will be some kinds of fun.
Let’s plan to meet at 12.30pm-ish (which probably means a start time of about 12.45pm). Latecomers are always welcome and you should spot us easily.
Young people, old people, all people, are super welcome and we can all check out the way the past lives today.
And for those who will enjoy a post-round lunch, The Edinboro Castle has outside and inside tables, and there are lots of other food places in Camden Town.
WEATHER FORECAST
Well, it's been mild and grey lately, but that might all change by oxt Sunday. It's a bit early for an accurate forecast, but check the radio or the newspaper or lying down cows or pine cones or whatever on the day. We'll try to play whatever the weather, but gales, blizzards and Death Valley type heatwaves do hamper the game somewhat.
Little chance of the latter however.
So wrap up warm, wear a HAT, SCARF, GLOVES and SENSIBLE SHOES or WELLIES - the lawn is probably going to be a little squelchy like so many of the best things are.
GETTING THERE
The Event Map has a red pin pretty much where we start.
But here are some coordinates: 51.533003, -0.150185
If you played before, you'll know the first tee is a large Willow Tree in the North Eastish part of Regent's Park, which marks the border between the London Borough of Camden and the City of Westminster.
But there's nothing really to say that, so to get there, a good way is to enter Regent's Park via the Gloucester Gate (the Camden Town corner - via Parkway if coming from the Tube - as if you were heading towards the Zoo) and as soon as you enter bear to the left at the mapboard and walk up along the path straight ahead of you, keeping the kids playground and footballers on your right and a series of Horse Chestnuts and large lawny area with a climbing frame on your left.
It's about 150 metres.
Don't go as far as the fountain, but as long as you arrive around 12.30pm you should see a few people by the tree.
WHAT TO BRING
If you have a FRISBEE, bring that.
Especially an AEROBIE as they are the best.
We've got plenty of spares though so don’t worry – you will be provided for.
AN UMBRELLA if it looks like rain - not that it will. Or be at all windy. Imagine that. Yeah, it will be.
Sensible SHOES or WELLIES - it could be soggy out there people.
GLOVES might be a good idea too.
Depending on the numbers, you might be given a map of the course, a scorecard and pencil.
The trees may or may not be visibly marked so there should be no confusion as to your target. Or there will be.
WHAT WE'RE PLAYING FOR
An aubergine!
There are many delicious things you can make - curry, moussaka, aubergine parm etc.
There may be other prizes awarded at the Club's discretion - I’ll plan to bring enough
General items of fruit will be distributed along the way to keep everyone's spirits up and special 'Hole in One' awards will be made.
Come and see a place that isn’t exactly what they thought it would be 200 years on, but is a great place to be here and now.
Any problems, give me a call.
Cool beans!
