Sunderland & Newcastle Branches unite to celebrate a series of serendipitous anniversaries:
The Cluny turns 25!
The Cluny annual duck race turns 10!
And - The RSPCA celebrates its 200th anniversary!
It's ONE FUN DAY! And it's taking place on Sunday the 30th of June!!
Arrive any time from 11am, when The Cluny opens - perhaps grab a drink or a bite from the bar if you're feeling 'peckish' or in the mood for merriment.
12:30pm - Best Dressed Duck! The Cluny & RSPCA judging panel will select their favourite decorated ducks and, with help from the crowd, will pick the winner for 'best dressed duck' before the parade over to the bridge and to the starting line where all of the competitors' rubber duckies will be plopped into the burn for the main event.
Indulge in a day of laid-back charm and quacking good fun at the 10th annual Cluny Duck Race, nestled in the tranquil surroundings of The Cluny pub in Ouseburn, Newcastle. This family and dog-friendly event offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, promising a daft and memorable community experience for all.
We also encourage duck-themed fancy dress, if only for the photo opportunities! Go on! You know you want to!!!
In the lead-up to the event, 'duck' into The Cluny pub where you can buy your very own rubber duck for £5 to enter the race. Take your little friend home, and adorn your duck with touches of personal flair, transforming it into a unique masterpiece in anticipation of the 'best dressed', and the race ahead.
On the day of the event, immerse yourself in the community spirit and colourful, fun, and chilled ambiance of the burn as you gather with fellow participants and spectators along the waters. Watch as the decorated ducks head downstream, and cheer on your racer, as all entrants compete for the coveted Cluny Golden Duck Trophy!
First place wins the trophy (and bragging rights)!
When the race is done, pop to our gazebo to say hello, drop a few quid in our nearby collection buckets, and head over to the bar for a refreshing drink, bite to eat, or simply sit back, and enjoy the company of friends and family.
