About the Workshop
Great Performance Lab was a workshop on generating material quickly that took place in April. Greatest Performance Lab is the sequel: more prompts, more reps, more collaboration, more unchecked ambition, more phenomenal/horrible ideas, and more breathtaking accidents from attempting to put an imaginary show on its feet. Participation in the April workshop is not required to take part in this July workshop. Greatest Performance Lab will follow the same approach as its predecessor. We’ll start with a premise: a show exists if you pretend it exists. From there, we’ll dream up the shows we want to make, pretend they’re real, and start creating.
Using techniques from clown and devising, we’ll put our most ridiculous and unrefined ideas directly on their feet, daring to make material so brazen it’s destined for the cutting room floor. We’ll also spend some time writing, fleshing out the worlds we want to invent onstage through generative exercises designed to sidestep overthinking and cut through self-consciousness.
Some clown, improv, or devising experience is recommended. Participants will be given on-the-fly feedback throughout the workshop, while also being asked to work quickly and embrace moments of uncertainty—so the more ready you are to dive in, the more we can play, fail, and discover together as a group.
About Daniel
Daniel Maseda is a performer from Washington, DC who makes ridiculous work. He is currently touring his solo show “BE GOOD!” WITH PAULETTE, which played at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe (★★★★, Pick of the Fringe) and was awarded the inaugural Fringie for best Clown performance at the 2025 Philadelphia Fringe. Alongside his performance work, Daniel teaches at École Philippe Gaulier and leads workshops on clown, improvisation, and devising internationally.
