About the Workshop
AY AM CLOWN
This workshop is for beginners, experienced performers, and anyone curious to bring more joy, play, and pleasure into their lives.
I (Maya) invite you to dive into an exploration of the beauty, wonder, and silliness that clowning has to offer. Together, we will explore vulnerability as a way of connecting to others and to an audience, what makes each of us uniquely funny, and tools for staying present through curiosity and self-awareness. Through foolishness, we’ll explore pleasure, freedom, and the joy of being fully ourselves.
In a world where we are constantly told to behave, Maya (I) invites you to leave that well-behaved adult at home and reconnect with the spontaneous, fearless, mischievous, playful self that lives inside you.
About Maya
Maya Ricote is a Mexican telenovela actor turned clown. Clowning changed her life and she thinks it might change yours too.
Since discovering clowning at the little clown school in France known as École Philippe Gaulier, Maya hasn’t stopped training, performing, and playing. After countless workshops and performances around the world, she has gathered her favourite exercises on play and presence to share in her own workshops.
Maya is a London Clown Festival winner, a Sketch Off finalist, and holder of Mexican theatre awards. She is currently developing her debut clown show, AY AM!, which she will be taking to the Edinburgh Fringe.
