The week before Thanksgiving at Pickwick & Cherry is basically what all the spatial-reasoning games of our childhoods—Tetris, Tangrams, those little plastic sliding puzzles, Rubik’s Cubes, and (hopefully not) Pick-Up-Sticks—were secretly training us for. The freezer turns into a round of Arctic Jenga—gigantic towers of pies on trays balanced on blocks of Structural Margarine—while Mabel Rosita, our new mixer (RIP Rosie the Riveted), tackles her first Thanksgiving with admirable enthusiasm for a semi-inanimate object and a whirring that sounds suspiciously like Korobieniki, and by five days out we’ve abandoned any notion of square footage and are operating entirely in cubic (paging Mr. Rubik, please send help!) And then, when it’s finally time to bake and box everything, the whole shop becomes Hard Mode in all of the games at once. It’s fun!…we keep telling ourselves.
Stop by to pick up your Thanksgiving order and browse a few early holiday things while you’re here. You’ll find pies, breads, savory bites, and the first bits of Christmas appearing on the shelves: cookie boxes, cocoa mix, brownie mix, marshmallows, teas, granola, fruitcakes, and—if we manage it—chocolates and marshmallow pops. No cakes or coffee cakes yet, and no stollen or panettone; those are manifested into existence later in December.
This is our only public opening before December, so come claim your pie, admire the ribbon system in action, and maybe get a head start on your holiday list. Pre-orders are encouraged, but we’ll have a few extras while they last.
