We are pleased to invite you to the third lecture of 2026 in the Middle East Studies Research Seminar Series on the 23rd of April. In this thematic lecture called "Textual, Spacial and Material Approaches in Ottoman History" two of our posdoctoral researchers in the ERC project OttoWaqf – Islamic Endowments and State Formation in the Ottoman Empire (1450–1650), will present their work.
Dr. Irem Gündüz-Polat (Ghent University) will present “The Role of Waqfs in the Political and Territorial Consolidation of the Early Ottoman Polity.”
Dr. Vincent Thérouin (Ghent University) will give a lecture entitled “Seeing Like a Space: Investigating Urbanization in Ottoman Bosnia, between Texts, Maps, and Material Remains.”
