Dear Biomedical Sciences studenten & fellow enthusiasts,
On Tuesday, April 21, the Vlaamse Biomedische Kring (VBK) is organizing a lecture on innovative developments within the forensic field. This evening will focus on cutting-edge forensic DNA research, presented by Professor Bram Bekaert (KU Leuven).
Forensic DNA research is evolving rapidly. New technologies make it possible to unravel complex DNA mixture profiles and extract increasingly precise information from minimal biological traces.
Bram Bekaert combines practical experience with academic expertise. He worked for five years with the Federal Police in close protection and holds a BSc in Biotechnology, a BSc (Hons) in Forensic Science, an MSc in Forensic DNA Profiling, and a PhD in Molecular Biology. He is currently a professor at KU Leuven, where he conducts research on innovative applications within forensic genetics.
During this lecture, titled “Forensic phenotyping in Belgium: first steps, possibilities and limitations”, Prof. Bekaert will elaborate on recent developments in this field, as well as its applications and limitations within the Belgian context.
