Teresa Trull and Barbara Higbie Reunion, Birthdays and Pride Celebration with special guests Vicki Randle, Julie Wolf, Kofy Brown and othersThe reunion of singer-songwriter Teresa Trull and pianist/singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Barbara Higbie, is a long-awaited musical event. Their duo CD “Playtime” captures the excitement and versatility that has endeared them to audiences since their 1983 release on Olivia Records, “Unexpected.” Returning briefly from her home in New Zealand to reunite with Higbie for the National Women’s Music Festival, Trull is looking forward to this special Freight concert in celebration of her 70th birthday.
The SF Chronicle has called Trull, “Absolutely magnificent” and Higbie ,”One of the most exciting musicians we have heard.” Acclaimed in publications such as People, Cashbox, Billboard, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe their vibrant fusion of energy and talent has earned them an enthusiastic and persistent following as well as a GLAMA Award. They have shared stages with Tracy Chapman, k.d. Lang, Whoopie Goldberg, Nancy Griffith, Cris Williamson, Joan Baez, Sheila E, Pete Seeger and many others. Combining gut emotion, technical brilliance and pure joie de vivre, Trull and Higbie are a musical force to be reckoned with.
Each an accomplished solo artist in their own right, the chemistry they have together is legendary. Teresa Trull combines a gutsy blues/rock style with topnotch songwriting and producing talents. She was awarded “Best Producer of an Independent Album” at the New York Music Awards. Signed at age 19 to Olivia Records, she has 5 original albums and has produced over 35 albums.
Higbie was the first female instrumentalist signed to the iconic Windham Hill label. She has 18 albums, a Grammy nomination and a Bammy award and appears on over 120 albums.
”Higbie’s presence was like a bolt of bright sunlight”(LA Times).
”Trull’s truly expressive voice projects a clear pure soprano and drops an octave below to achieve an equally clear strong alto. Especially humorous, her stage presence was always needle sharp- a world of talent.”(The Oregonian).
