Tender Buttons presents Neurotique: A Mid Winter Queer Celebration with Performers, DJ's and a good serving of Queer neurosis held at the cosy seaside venue The Loons, Ōhinehou (Lyttleton)Expanding on our previous drag showcase, expect a subversive offering from Drag performers HerMess and Iscariot and a very special Live act by Uncle Quentin. Our DJ’s for the night are DumbGucci, Map Maker, Pentaloe and Kate.Land.
DumbGucci queer DJ // Naarm (AUS) experiments with the boundaries of electronic music. With a crush for trance and fast techno, DumbGucci adores a high-energy & immersive sound, driving heavy beats, euphoric trance melodies, and atmospheric textures.
Uncle Quentin is an Ōtautahi-born samples-based artist living in Naarm and releasing mixtapes on Melted Ice Cream. Whilst his previous mixtapes explored queer shame and disgust, he is preparing for the release of his new mixtape, “SINGS BALLADS & BLUES” which moves into new areas of love and longing. This show will premiere new material from the forthcoming tape, and of course will include some of his traditional disgust for the loyal trolls - mainly because he can’t help himself.
HerMess, a member of the House of Swallows and the mastermind behind The Scum Syndicate, is a modern goth entity who has journeyed from a dark, desolate planet adrift in the vastness of space. Understanding the urgent need for change in the world, HerMess is here to fearlessly challenge norms and provoke thought through their art.
Mapmaker wants to show you a beautiful cartography of refuge and liberation. David Garcia (he/they/siya/ia) is a Kapampangan and Tagalog geographer from the Philippines and is at the intersection of shifting oceans, genres, and worlds. David actually makes maps (as in cartography), loves cooking, and is exploring the sonic realm in solidarity with historically-marginalised communities. This mapmaker’s practice - represented by the canoe - bends and expands time, space, and bodies, backwards into the future. Now, this mapmaker is finding their way to anything subversive, cheeky, dark, and horny. 𖦹
