About this Event
The floor is lava on the historic streets of York!
Thanks to support from the Curry Fund of the Geologists' Association, geologists Dr Rebecca Williams and Dr Liam Herringshaw have put together Tempest's Volcano Trail. This special walk across York city centre combines stories from the life of pioneering York volcanologist Dr Tempest Anderson with stony secrets from the city's streets and buildings. Volcanic and igneous rocks can be found all across the city centre, and Becky and Liam will show off some of the best, explaining the science behind them and connecting them to the amazing adventures of York's own volcano-chaser.
This 90-minute walk starts outside the Yorkshire Museum and finishes at the York Medical Society on Stonegate. The route has a small number of steps and goes down some narrow, cobbled streets, so may not be suitable for people of restricted mobility. The tour is aimed at volcano-hunters aged 8 and up, and all under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
