Join SciStarter and the Franklin Institute for a unique Telescope Pop-Up Party at Independence National Historical Park! This free, family-friendly event invites you to explore the night sky while contributing to real scientific research that helps protect migrating birds.
Through guided activities and telescope viewing, you’ll discover how artificial light impacts wildlife and learn simple ways you can make a difference.
What You’ll Experience
Telescope Viewing – Get an up-close look at the stars and planets
Light Pollution Science – Help measure and understand sky brightness- we'll teach you how!
Bird Migration Activity – Identify nighttime migrating birds - we'll use free apps
Why It Matters
Millions of birds migrate using the stars to navigate at night and artificial light can disorient them. By participating, you’ll contribute to real data that helps scientists and communities protect birds and restore darker skies.
