Expose your teen to a career in the STEM field. Embark on a journey of career discovery with our immersive STEM Careers Exploration Camp! Led by college faculty at Illinois Valley Community College, this engaging 3-day program offers a first-hand glimpse into diverse career paths in the fields of electronics, computer-aided drafting, automotive technology, machine operation, and industrial technology.Call the IVCC Continuing Education Center at 815-224-0427 for more information or to register. Cost is $79 for all six experiences June 15-17 from 9 AM-4 PM each day.
Throughout IVCC's GRIP STEM camp, participants will delve into the requirements and experiences necessary to pursue their career aspirations in STEM fields. Through interactive sessions, students will gain insights into various occupations, learning about the educational pathways and skill sets needed to achieve their professional goals.
The highlight of the camp is a tour of a local manufacturing facility, providing participants with a behind-the-scenes look at real-world applications of STEM principles in industry. Join us for an unforgettable experience that could ignite your passion and pave the way for a rewarding career in STEM!
Students should bring a sack lunch that does not require refrigeration.
This camp is partially funded by grants through Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs and Carl Perkins.
Monday:
Session 1: Electronics
In this captivating workshop, students will master the art of deciphering schematics, a crucial skill for assembling and soldering an intriguing mystery project.

Session 2: Industrial Technology
Delve into the fundamental principles of fluid power, exploring both hydraulic and pneumatic systems, controls, cylinders, and components. Through hands-on activities and collaborative teamwork, participants will construct real-life hydraulic and pneumatic circuits, gaining practical experience and problem-solving skills along the way.

Tuesday:
Session 1: Computer Aided Design
Through hands-on exploration, participants will delve into the fascinating world of 3D modeling and printing. Utilizing problem-solving skills, they will immerse themselves in the intricacies of design, learning how to translate concepts into three-dimensional models on a computer. Finally, they will witness the magic as their creations come to life through the process of 3D printing, culminating in the tangible realization of their vision.

Session 2: Automotive Technology - East Campus
Get ready to rev up your summer with our exciting automotive camp. Designed for teens passionate about cars and mechanics, this camp offers a hands-on experience in automotive maintenance and inspections, vehicle alignment theory and adjustment, and gas engine theory and measurements. One of the highlights of our Teen Automotive Camp is the thrilling NASCAR pit crew tire change competition. Campers will have the opportunity to put their newfound skills to the test in a high-energy, adrenaline-pumping challenge, just like the pros. Who will emerge as the fastest and most efficient pit crew? Join us to find out!
