About this Event
About this event
As teenagers become more independent, their world expands — new places, new people and new experiences. While this is a normal part of growing up, it can also bring worries for parents and carers about safety, influence from peers, and what’s happening when young people are not at home.
This workshop offers a clear, supportive overview of the kinds of risks teenagers may face in the community, how to spot early signs of concern, and where to get help if you’re worried. We focus on practical guidance, local information and understanding the real contexts young people move through every day.
The session brings together professionals who work directly with teenagers in Crawley and West Sussex, offering insight into local trends and support available for families.
What we’ll cover
This session explores:
- What “contextual safety” means
Understanding the environments outside the home that can affect wellbeing — such as school, online spaces, friendship groups, public places and the wider community. - Local trends and concerns
What professionals are currently seeing in Crawley and nearby areas, including social pressures, online risks, antisocial behaviour, grooming or exploitation, and situations that can put young people at risk. - Early signs that a young person may be struggling
Changes in behaviour, friendships, routines or online activity that might indicate they need support. - How relationships and peers influence safety
How social pressures can affect choices, identity and risk, and how to support young people in managing difficult situations. - Where to get help
Clear information about support from local services, how to raise concerns, and what to do if you’re worried about your child’s safety. - Practical strategies for parents and carers
Ideas for talking to young people about safety, staying connected, setting boundaries and encouraging help‑seeking behaviour.
This session aims to empower families with knowledge — without judgement or fear — and to reassure parents and carers that support is available.
