Join us for an exciting new series of TEDxCapeTown watch parties as we launch #TEDTuesday, a monthly gathering of curious minds, bold ideas, and community conversation. In partnership with Workshop17, our official venue partner, we’ll revisit some of the most powerful TEDxYouth@CapeTown talks delivered on our stage in 2023.Whether you're a long-time TED fan or new to the community, these sessions are your chance to go deeper into the “ideas change everything” that shape our city, continent, and future.
Event theme: Sustainable storytelling & cultural revival
Ziganekozihle Makhetha brings township cinema back to life, not just as entertainment, but as a force for cultural restoration, youth empowerment, and community cohesion.
This conversation focuses on access, heritage, and how sustainable infrastructure can amplify authentic African stories.
Makhetha is a filmmaker, performer, facilitator and founder of the film production company WANTOW WANTOW.
Her passion for her industry goes beyond being in front of the camera and behind the scenes. For her, it is essential that she contributes towards the sustainability of the film industry by learning how to cohesively dismantle ancient bureaucratic ways of operating. She does this by facilitating acting workshops that provide access to creative education and training while educating actors about their rights.
Through her talk, she wants people to recognise the realities of South Africa; how we can contribute to shaping our world and maintaining our culture.
Each session will feature:
- Watch party of a selected TED talk by a South African speaker
- A live Q&A session with the speaker(s)
- A themed conversation led by our moderator
- An opportunity to connect, reflect, and share insights with others passionate about change
