Join guest teacher and Rochester native MJ Waddell for the first of our summer series workshops this July! Some yoga cues are passed down through years of teaching. We often use specific language because we heard it from our own teachers, mimicking what has been said before without always knowing the specific physical action those words are meant to trigger. Whether you are a teacher or an inquisitive practitioner, this workshop is designed to help you gain clear knowledge on how to communicate movement with purpose and precision.
This half day workshop is a fun, interactive, and collaborative session where we come together to share perspectives in a completely judgment-free space. We will help one another grow—just as we do for our students and ourselves—by sharing ideas and participating in practice teaching. You will leave with practical tools, fresh curiosity, and a sense of connection to your community.
What We Will Explore:
● The 3 W’s of Cueing: Why we cue, when we cue, and what specific actions are needed for each cue to be effective.
● New Ways to Communicate: Explore how to communicate with greater knowledge and move away from the habitual cues you may have heard for a long time.
● Refining Your Language: Learn to choose words that are true, helpful, necessary, and kind.
● Embodied Learning: Explore teaching and practicing actions that cater to all ages and all skill levels of yoga.
Who is this for?
For Inquisitive Practitioners:
● A “Behind the Scenes” Experience: Step into the conversation and see how teachers refine their skills, passion, and creativity to better serve their students.
● Understand the Cues: Learn what your teachers actually mean by those common cues you hear in every class.
● Evolving Practice: Deepen your mind-body connection by learning how to apply specific cues directly to your own body for a more evolving practice—because ultimately, you are your own best teacher.
For Yoga Teachers:
● New Cueing Perspectives: Discover fresh ways to communicate movement beyond habitual or “mimicked” cueing.
● Enhanced Student Experience: Gain more knowledge to guide students toward a more embodied practice where they can feel new sensations and understand how the movement works in their body.
● Sharing & Growth: Join a space for those who enjoy collaborating, sharing, and discovering a burst of creativity to enhance communication. This is a chance to re-energize your teaching practice and find fresh excitement in the language of movement.
● Earn CEUs: This workshop provides 4 continuing education units for Yoga Alliance.
