The vision for Te Pātaka Ora o Mangatawa is officially moving from paper to the soil, and we need your hands. This day is all about collective mahi—coming together.
We have officially locked in the date for our very first community working bee, and it’s only 16 days away!
📅 When: Saturday, 18th July
📍 Where: Mangatawa Marae - Area 1, Zone 1 (The Compound)
What’s the mission?
🔨 Building our 10 heavy-duty, two-tier raised garden beds.
🚜 Filling them up with rich compost and soil.
🥬 Planting our very first lot of vegetables to kickstart our food resilience journey!
Whether you are a master builder, a keen gardener or just great at making a good cuppa—there is a place for everyone.
Let’s come together, learn some skills, and build something beautiful for our marae and our future.
Bring your gloves, your hats, and your whānau.

🛠️ TOOL & GEAR CHECKLIST – CAN YOU HELP? 🛠️
To build our 10 raised beds and get our very first vegetables planted, we need a bit of gear on-site! If you are heading along and can bring any of the following, please let us know:
For the Build:
🪛 Cordless Drills & Drivers (with square/driver bits for timber screws)
🪚 Skill Saws / Circular Saws (for cutting timber) or Hand Saws
📌 Heavy-Duty Staple Guns (for lining the inside of the beds)
📐 Tape Measures, Pencils, & Spirit Levels
For the Moving & Gardening:
🛒 Wheelbarrows (we need these for moving compost and soil!)
🪵 Spades & Shovels
🌿 Hand Trowels & Cultivators (for planting the seedlings)
💦 Watering Cans or Hoses
Note: Please use a piece of tape or a marker to label your tools and batteries with your name so nothing gets mixed up at the end of the day!
