The new all-star trio of premier banjoist Béla Fleck, harpist Edmar Castañeda, and drummer Antonio Sánchez features instrumentation that one might call unusual, unless you're familiar with 19-time GRAMMY winner and 39-time nominee Fleck: the genre-blurring virtuoso who has expanded the possibilities of the banjo more than anyone in history. From his bluegrass beginnings through the Flecktones, his duo with Chick Corea, and his reimagining of Rhapsody in Blue, Fleck never fails to surprise. What doesn't surprise is the impeccable caliber of his collaborators – including two of the most gifted musicians of their generation. Colombia’s harpist Edmar Castañeda has shared projects with such masters as Hiromi, Paquito D'Rivera, and Grégoire Maret. Five-time GRAMMY winner Sánchez grew up in Mexico City and built a reputation as one of the great jazz drummers through his work with Pat Metheny, and the solo-drumming film score for critically-acclaimed film Birdman (2014), starring Michael Keaton. Now they bring BEATrio, currently GRAMMY-nominated for “Best Contemporary Instrumental Album,” to TD Victoria International JazzFest 2026. Playing original repertoire, this trio embarks on fearless explorations that audiences will find irresistible.
