About this Event
Welcome to The Black Neighborhood 🌿
The Black Neighborhood (TBN) is a community-centered organization focused on wellness, connection, and collective care. We bring people together through movement, mindfulness, and shared experiences that support both mental and physical well-being.
Our Mindfulness Hikes are part of our "We Black Outside" Movement — creating space to slow down, reconnect with nature, and move in community. These hikes are about presence, peace, and showing up for ourselves and each other.

TBN Hike #50 (Hard)
📅 Sunday, February 1
🕗 Meet-up Time: 8:45 AM
📍 Meet-up Location: Chabot Space & Science Center Parking Garage
10000 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA 94619
🥾 Trail: West Ridge & French Trail Loop
📏 Distance: 5.5 miles⏱️ Estimated Time: 3–4 hours
What to Expect
This is a HARD-level hike with steady climbs, uneven terrain, and a consistent pace. The route moves through towering redwood forests, shaded trails, and peaceful natural areas, with occasional views of the surrounding foothills. You may also spot birds and local wildlife along the way.
We hike together, take intentional pauses when needed, and finish as a group. Come ready to move your body, clear your mind, and enjoy the calm that comes from being outside.
Water + Snacks
We will have water and snacks available, but participants should still bring their own water and personal fuel, especially for a physically demanding hike. Please plan to be self-sufficient.
Please Bring
- Hiking shoes or boots with good traction
- Your own water (even though we’ll have some)
- Snacks or light fuel
- Layers for changing weather
- A small backpack with personal essentials (medications, electrolytes, sunscreen, etc.)
Good to Know
- Meet-up begins at 8:45 AM. We will start hiking shortly after check-in. Late arrivals may miss the group.
- Not kid-friendly. Adults only.
- Dog-friendly with conditions: Dogs are welcome if leashed at all times, well-controlled, and able to handle a long, physically demanding hike. Owners are fully responsible for their dog’s behavior, hydration, and safety.
- Best for adults comfortable with longer, challenging hikes
- Download the AllTrails app to preview the route (West Ridge & French Trail Loop)
