MLK Day of Service Paddle or Walk to Clear Marine Debris & Plastic
PADDLE 🛶 - OR - WALK🚶
Join us MLK Day of Service and help protect the Oakland Estuary. Together, we’ll remove garbage and marine debris from Jack London Aquatic Center, Estuary Park, and the shores of the Oakland Estuary to support wildlife habitat, water quality, and ecological health.

1A. 🛶 Bring Your Own Kayak, SUP & Canoe to JLAC
Cleanup teams head out on the water to remove trash along the Oakland Estuary beaches.
- Register on the event page under “WATER>BRINGING KAYAK/CANOE/SUP TO JLAC”
- Unload gear, sign waivers, and prepare to launch
- Be ready to be on the water by 8:20 AM
1B. 🛶 RENT a Kayak from California Canoe & Kayak (CCK)
You must call CCK to reserve a kayak 510-893-7833. California Canoe & Kayak will give kayak renters rental instructions, you must get the kayak at CCK's shop. You will get your kayak through CCK at their Jack London location and will paddle from CCK to JLAC with a paddle guide.

2. 🚶Walk and Clean the Jack London Aquatic Center & Estuary Park Shores
Help clear debris at JLAC & Estuary Park shores.

👨👩👧 Youth Participation
Our cleanups are suited for high school aged students. We do sign community hours. Parent or legal guardian must attend and sign youth waiver.
👟 Event Must-Haves 🎒
· Sturdy-soled closed toe shoes (for paddling and walking shoreline)
· Water bottle, wear layers and snacks
· Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, layers)
Join us to paddle or walk the shores protect, and clear estuary shores!

8:00 – 8:20 AM
Sign-In
All volunteers arrive, load in gear, and sign waivers at JLAC.
8:20 – 8:30 AM
Safety Talk
Please do not begin clearing garbage until the safety talk is complete.
8:30 – 10:45 AM
Trash Cleanup
We’ve got a lot of garbage to GET—let’s get to work!
10:45 – 11:00 AM
Thank You & Wrap-Up
We’ll regroup, load up the City of Oakland dumpster, and take photos of you beautiful people!
