Join us inside the Pathway to Empire exhibit for Tater Tot Day!We know that furry groundhog will get all the attention, but even Punxsutawney Phil would get his fill of 'taters! Come learn about the heritage of potatoes in NYS and their connection to the canal.
We'll include some info on the Garnet Chili potato in Utica in the 1850s. This blight-resistant variety, created to combat starvation after the Irish potato blight, is now the genetic ancestor of most commercially grown potatoes today, including the Burbank Russet.
Doors open at 11am and there will be a short discussion around 11:30am. The museum will remain open for you to check out the exhibit and enjoy some light refreshments until 1pm. This program is free and open to the public.
