What makes a food distinctly Toronto? Part storytelling, part tasting experience, and part exhibition tour, Tastes of Toronto explores the histories, cultures, and communities behind the city’s flavours.
For this edition, culinary historian Shirley Lum will trace the history of dim sum from its origins in China to Toronto’s earliest Chinatown and the vibrant Chinese communities that followed. Discover how migration, tradition, and community have shaped dim sum’s place in Toronto’s culinary landscape.
Along the way, enjoy tea and a selection of dumplings provided by Edwin Lum of Wok Theory, bringing the stories and flavours of dim sum together in a delicious tasting experience.

The T.O. You Don't Know invites visitors to look beyond familiar narratives and discover the hidden histories, overlooked voices, and unexpected stories that have shaped Toronto. Through photographs, artifacts, maps, and multimedia experiences, the exhibition reveals a city that is more complex, surprising, and diverse than many people realize.
