About this Event
This workshop is REQUIRED for all C2Adopt families in the home study assessment process. Clients of C2Adopt can attend trainings for free. We also keep our trainings open for community members, professionals and families affiliated with other agencies. We ask that anyone who is not a C2Adopt client consider providing a donation through our website (www.c2adopt.org) that reflects the value you felt you received from the training.
Many times adoptive parents are uncertain about how to talk about adoption with their child. They have worries and concerns about creating additional harm or the impact of sharing hard information about their child's history or birth family. It can lead to parents avoiding conversations, missing opportune moments for connection or creating misleading narratives for their child about how they came to join their family. How do parents make wise choices about sharing the WHOLE truth in developmentally appropriate ways at each age and stage of their child's life?
In addition, the general public has very little education on adoption and can use antiquated language, ask invasive and personal questions, and make assumptions based on old myths. What is the appropriate amount of information to share? And with who? Especially when you are concerned about sensitive details and information.
Join Rebecca Ricardo, LCSW, Executive Director of C2Adopt and birth/first parent and adult adoptee to gain practical strategies for talking with your child about adoption and resources to support conversations about adoption with your child and others!
