About this Event
Would you like to find out more about how the brain develops during the teen years and what you can do to help your child through adolescence?
Do you struggle to cope with your teenager’s changing moods?
Is your child approaching the teenage years and you would like to be prepared?
As a parent of a child with additional needs, you may well be wondering how your child will experience adolescence and how you can support them whilst helping them to develop important independence skills.
Letting go is hard for most parents and we are often asked how to help our children towards adulthood when they have needs that may make them vulnerable and make parents more anxious.
Run by highly experienced facilitators, counsellors and parenting practitioners, this online workshop will help parents to understand:
- Teenage brain development and how it affects a child with ASD/ADHD.
- Reducing conflict by learning how to respond effectively to difficult situations.
- Strengthening your parent/child relationship.
- How to agree appropriate boundaries and teach risk assessment.
- Adapting our parenting approach to help our teens become independent adults.
- Where to access further help and support, both locally and nationally.
The Supporting Links ethos is not simply to impart information by Powerpoint, but to enable parents to learn valuable skills that will help them to support their children. Our emphasis is on helping parents to use new knowledge and strategies within their own families and, thereby, support their child.
Previous attendees have said:
‘I found the 'teenage brain' fascinating. Lots of penny dropping moments!’ "
"The information was shared in such a relatable way. It was like the trainers had been watching what it is like in my home and have given me some good ideas about what to do about some of these situations"
Parents and carers who attend will leave understanding what is happening for their child and what they can do about it.
The workshop will take place via Zoom and will incorporate a Q&A session.
This workshop is provided free to parents by Herts County Council and it is open to all parents and carers of children aged 2-25 years old with suspected or diagnosed Autistic Spectrum Disorder and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder who are living in Hertfordshire.
