About this Event
As the autistic community begins to take more control of all areas of their life, the language used to describe specific traits and areas of autism begins to take shape. The opinions and views of autistic people, their support networks and professionals are important in shaping the new language being used and so the question of language reaches PDA. This will be a short workshop on what PDA is followed by a discussion around the language question of: Should it be Pathological Demand Avoidance or Pervasive Drive for Autonomy?
James is a registered Learning Disability Nurse and a qualified Social Worker. He has worked across a range of settings in Mental Health, always focusing on improving the lives of autistic people. James is now working independently and is looking to begin researching, with his area of expertise focusing on autism, demand avoidance, and eating disorders.
Open to All - Autistic people, carers and family members of autistic people, professionals, academics, lay persons
