Talk: Mushrooms
Mike will explore how to recognize common mushrooms, explain the basics of fungal life cycles, and discuss how mushrooms interact with trees, soil, and wildlife. Learn the difference between edible, toxic, and simply fascinating species, and gain insight into why fungi are essential for nutrient cycling, forest health, and habitat stability.
Drawing on his experience with the Door Peninsula Mushroom Club, Mike will also share tips for ethical mushroom hunting, safe observation practices, and how to start noticing fungi on trails, in yards, and in woodlands throughout the seasons. This program is designed to inspire curiosity—not collecting—and to help you see the forest floor in a whole new light.
