About this Event

Enjoy a relaxing and creative textile workshop with tutor Ann Ross, inspired by the ever-changing colours, textures and landscapes of Scotland.

Join us at Bannockburn House for a relaxing session of creativity, conversation and a cuppa as part of our Tales of Tartan & Doors Open Day celebrations.

Led by experienced textile tutor Anne Ross, this two-hour workshop invites you to create your own interpretation of the “Colours of Scotland” using an inspiring selection of textured wools.

Ann’s textile work is influenced by her surroundings: the changing colours of the seasons, the moods of the mountains and the textures of Scotland’s unfolding hills. Through textiles, she encourages people to explore their own ideas, imagery and creativity.

Ann has travelled widely and studied textile traditions in places including Gambia and Mongolia. Her experiences have shown how textile-making can bring people together, allowing them to share knowledge, learn from one another and create within a supportive community.

This workshop continues that spirit. Whether you are a complete beginner or already enjoy working with textiles, you will be warmly welcomed and guided through the process of creating your own unique wool artwork.

The workshop also celebrates Bannockburn’s remarkable textile heritage. Nearly 300 years ago, William Wilson was born into the community that would become internationally known for tartan production. His family’s firm, William Wilson & Son of Bannockburn, helped establish more than 260 years of weaving and textile history in the village.

All materials and resources are included, together with a card mount so that your finished “Colours of Scotland” artwork is ready to take home and display.

Come along, slow down and enjoy an afternoon of colour, texture, creativity and good company in the historic surroundings of Bannockburn House.
