Class Description:In this Taichi foundation class, we start with sitting with tea together, particularly Chinese tea that would help settle our Qi 氣; then we do Standing Pose or Zhan Zhuang 站樁, a fundamental exercise that helps improve posture in Taichi, to ensure the sinking of Qi to DanTian. Many people found that doing Standing Pose regularly (if you could do it daily, great!) can help reduce knee pain.
In fact, Chen Taichi masters often emphasize the importance of Standing Pose in their teachings.
After Standing Pose, we will do Silk Reeling Excercises (Spiral Energy). Break down movements, explain the reasons of moving and twisting from the DanTian and sense the spiraling power.
These two fundamental practices help us understand how to be soft yet still have strength in our movements.
We will end the class sitting with tea again.
This is a class for all ages and all levels.
No experience is needed.
About Standing Pose 站樁: time of keeping the pose is depending on how the person feels, a minimum of 5 mins is required, but we will try to keep the pose together for 20 mins. Take as many small breaks as you need. Wiggle if you need. The goal is to do it at your comfort level and not strain or hurt yourself.
Shunyu would help do adjustments to each person, and then help guide them to adjust the pose on their own. The goal is to learn to adjust the pose eventually by oneself, knowing how to microadjust different parts of the body.

Shunyu Huang 黃順玉, born and rased in a costal city Zhuhai in southern China, has been practicing Chen Style Taichi 陳氏太极拳 since January 2023. In her early twenties, Shunyu practiced WingChun 詠春拳 regularly. She trained with Li Qing Xia 李清霞, a direct disciple of Master Chen Xiao Xing 陳小星 in June, 2024 during her family trip to China.
Shunyu has great love for Chinese tea, language and calligraphy.
